The pop-up / easter egg

Image
To add to the realism of my band, I decided what songs would be on the rest of the album. This included a  hidden song  at the end. The idea of a hidden song is in congruence with many alternative bands who released their music on physical platforms such as vinyl records and CDs. Bands like Papa Roach and My Chemical Romance used this feature as an easter egg for their devoted fans. However, since I wanted to display everything about the album on a website, I had to find a more creative way to integrate my hidden track. To do this, I put all of the songs from the album onto the website, with the final track not being down. Instead, just the outdo appears. On the surface level, there is no way of finding out that there is a final song. H owever, I created a way to find out what the hidden track is without listening to the full album. By clicking on the outro, it takes the user to a pop-up which reveals the track's name and plays the full song. Because of this, an  in group...

Making the album background

Image
In the first iteration of the album cover, the background had been sourced from Pinterest. It fit the theme I wanted to emulate of physical media. However, I believed I could do better than a simple Pinterest background. Because the album name is Stalingrad, I believed it would be fitting to print out Soviet newspapers to collage like I had done for the website background. I also printed out some vintage poison warnings to hammer in the themes of tragedy often covered by political bands. From here, I took away the background from the image and duplicated it until it took up an entire square for the album cover. After this, I put the collage into the album as a replacement for the pre-existing background. Now, it is much more thematic and also more realistic. The next step is to replace the filler images for the band members.

Making the website background

Image
Many contemporary artists choose to design their websites in congruence with their latest album. The cover for Stalingrad (Feminist Praxis' "latest album") features a newspaper theme in the background, which I therefore decided to continue within the website. So I printed out newspaper front covers. Many alternative bands are heavily involved in politics, so I specifically found covers with disastrous headlines to make a point.                 These images all printed out in greyscale, making them look more cohesive. I then ripped the newspapers up and collaged them back together to create a collaged effect. Soon enough, I had a somewhat rectangular shape to use for the website background.  Then, I took the picture and rubbed out the carpet, including in the gaps between the cuttings. To fill out the sides (and the gaps) I duplicated this shape sideways and placed it so there were no blank spaces. The top and bottom edges, however, are left j...

Performance shots

Unedited performance shots - Amara singing along to the lyrics It is currently very choppy. Narrative shots will be interspersed throughout the song (over half), covering up a lot of these takes.
